Looking For Alaska

By John Green

Summary: Miles life is ordinary. His whole life he has craved the “Great Perhaps,” this is until he goes to Culver Creek Boarding School. This school is anything but ordinary and might just help him into the world he had been craving for so long. The biggest help for his self journey into a new life is a girl named Alaska Young. Alaska is gorgeous, clever, funny, self-destructive, screwed-up, and fascinating. She steals his heart and then she is gone. Now Miles and the rest of Culver Creek are wondering did she leave, was she kidnapped, or worse did she end it all. No matter what happened to Alaska, Miles knows that nothing will ever be the same.

Book Review: I am going to start this with a bit of a disclaimer; I am biased about this book. John Green is hands down my all-time favorite author so, of course, this is one of my favorite books of all time. With that being said, however, there is no doubt that this book actually is a work of art. This book has not only been awarded many prizes, including the Michael L. Printz Award but has also been taught in many high schools and colleges nationwide. This book has been so successful that they now have a HULU show based of od the book. This book not only looks at tough issues like suicide but also looks into self-growth and figuring out who you really are meant to be. Green writes so brilliantly and keeps you wanting more throughout the whole book. Green makes you mourn with the characters and helps you feel like you are there with them. If you have not had the chance to read this book yet, then you need to go to your nearest book store now and pick it up. Trust me it will be worth it.
